Breadinabag

Bread in a Bag has been a 3rd grade tradition for many years. However, the exact age of this tradition is still unknown.  Third grade teacher Mrs. Hinkle tells us about when she started doing it.  Mrs. Hinkle says, “I have no idea how long we've been doing this, I know we did it when I was still downstairs, and Ann Sparke, a retired extension agent, led us through the activity”.  Bread in a Bag is a good way for the kids to learn something, while also having fun. “Many of us do not make homemade bread today. This activity shows the students how it is done, how long it takes to make a loaf of bread, and involves math and science skills,” says Mrs. Hinkle. The kids enjoy it and will remember it as a very fun day at school. When asked about how much students enjoy Bread in a Bag, Mrs. Hinkle said, “ Every single third grade class that made bread enjoyed it.  I still hear from former students who are out on their own, with their own families, how they remember this day and how awesome it was.”
