January was School Board Month. Let’s meet Jaren Nittler!
Jaren Nittler recently got voted onto the White City School Board. When asked what the school board does, Jeren answered back saying, “The board is responsible for ensuring quality education for the public. We accomplish this by reviewing/creating policies, hiring personnel, managing the budget, and constantly addressing the needs of our schools.”
Mr. Nittler is brand new to the board. He was elected to the board in November. He had his first meeting as a new member in January. In total, Jaren has been on the board for about two months.
When asked why he wanted to serve on the board, Jaren said, “My community has always been very important to me, and I want nothing more than for my children to have as great of a childhood as I had. The survival of the White City community hinges on the survival of our school. I felt as though I could help contribute to our district and help ensure it not only survives but thrives.”
We asked for a little information about Jaren’s background. He is a White City Huskie, born and raised. His mother worked for the district for about 15 years. In 2013, there were serious discussions of combining district sports, and Jaren was in favor of it. He understood the impact of the decision, and the identity loss of no longer having the Huskie mascot. He said, “It was a painful decision, but the right one.”
He’s been all in on district success since high school, and he thinks that the more of us that buy in, the more successful we’ll become. We asked him for an example of a recent school board decision. This is what he said: “We haven't had any contentious decisions made in the short time I've joined the board. We did vote to appoint Liz Stroda and myself for the BOE Contract Negotiations Team, we approved multiple new hires, and approved the retirement and resignation letters of a couple employees.”
