The White City High School National Honor Society consisting of President, Kacie Acres; Vice-President, Jason Elsen; Secretary, Kristina Rollins; Treasurer, Bailey Rapp and Parliamentarian, Parker Stilwell inducted two new members on April 28 th . The new NHS members are sophomores Amelia Friedli and Parker Diekmann.
National Honor Society (NHS) has been in existence since 1921 and the
White City High School’s chapter was created in 1981. The purpose of the
organization is to “create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a
desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership and to encourage the
development of character in high school students.
The prerequisite conditions for selection are:
1. Cumulative high school GPA (grade point average) of 3.25 or
better on a 4.0 scale.
2. Students who have that have attended the school the equivalent of
one semester.
3. Open to qualified sophomores (after 1 st semester) and juniors.
The criteria for selection below are evaluated by high school staff: a. Leadership: Resourceful, promotes school activities, positive influence, contributes to the civic life of the school, able to delegate responsibilities, exemplifies positive attitudes, inspires others to be positive, demonstrates academic initiative, holds school offices, is a leader in the classroom, at work, in the school and the community, dependable and accepts responsibility, upholds scholarship and loyal to school attitude.
b. Service: Volunteers, provides dependable, and well
organized assistance, is gladly available, willing to sacrifice,
to offer assistance, works well with others, willing to take on responsibilities, cheerfully and enthusiastically renders requested service, willing to represent the class or school in inter-class and inter-scholastic competition, does committee staff work, participates in activity outside of school, mentors people, shows courtesy by assisting visitors, teachers and students.
c. Character: Takes criticism willingly and accepts
recommendations, exemplifies desirable qualities of
behavior, upholds principles of morality and ethics,
cooperates, demonstrates the highest standards of honesty
and reliability, shows courtesy, concern and respect for
others, observes rules, punctual, and faithful, has powers of
concentration of self discipline, is truthful and obeys rules.
*The NHS Selection Committee then meets to make a final decision on
the candidates.
