Flyer asking "Someone Like You?"

Does Your Local School Board Need Someone Like You?

The ideal school board candidate values service to others and desires to guide lasting investments in public schools. Great school board candidates are passionate about supporting students, teachers and staff and advocating for the value of public schools in their community and across Kansas. They believe in creating a bright future for their community.

About Kansas Public Education

The Kansas Constitution guarantees every student in the state access to free and equitable public education. Local school boards are a shining example of representative government, putting this Constitutional responsibility into motion in communities across Kansas. Nearly 2,000 men and women serve as school board members across the public school systems that serve nearly 500,000 children and employ some 70,000 Kansans.

Public schools exist to help every student reach their fullest potential. Board members receive no pay for their service — except for the satisfaction that comes from strengthening opportunities for young Kansans, creating an ever brighter future for our state.

Board Elections

In 2015, the Kansas Legislature passed HB 2104, changing local election dates, including the dates for local school board elections.

The law requires these elections to be held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November of odd-numbered years. If necessary, primary elections will be held on the first Tuesday in August of odd-numbered years.

KASB encourages any eligible Kansan who cares about their schools and community to run for school board. Incumbent or new candidate, your experience, perspective and commitment to students makes you an invaluable asset to your community.
