We recently had a chance to go and observe the new Forensic Science class. This class is taught by Mrs. Fiest. This is Mrs. Fiest’s second year here at White City High School. She teaches 8th grade Science, Chemistry, Earth Science, Biology, and Anatomy. Now she adds a novel and exciting class. As part of the class activities, the students are watching a video to test their memory. The video gets students to think about the reliability of eyewitnesses. Later, they do some work to test their observation skills. The students seem to enjoy the class. They are all laughing and having fun. It’s still early in the school year, and Mrs. Fiest wants to get the students involved in the field of forensic science. Mrs. Fiest has set up a mock crime scene in the FACS room. A mock crime scene is a simulated crime scene set up to test a person's detective skills. Walter and Dusty are acting as detectives in the activity. The students have the chance to test whether or not they are “master detectives.” These kinds of interesting classes expand the range of opportunities available to our students. Forensic science is popular with young people today. They enjoy the mystery of true crime stories. Now forensic science has come to White City. (Karson Snyder & Bryson Allen)
