We recently had an opportunity to meet with White City School Principal Mrs. Darlene Griffiths. If you don’t know, Mrs. Griffiths is a former math teacher of twenty-one years. We wanted to ask her how the new school year was going. She said she would always give students a clean slate, including staff. We then asked her if there were any challenges about being the principal and the superintendent at the same time. She told us that her biggest challenge was giving enough time to both jobs. She said it was also hard to learn the names of all the new students. We asked her what was the same and different about the new school year. She commented that the school has many of the same staff and students. She also said that the school has gone from an eight- period day to a seven-period day. Mrs. Griffiths tells us that we might see some new staff and students around the halls. We also asked her what it's like being the superintendent. She said that assuming a high position is a serious duty, and if something goes wrong she usually has to take responsibility. She gave us the example of the recent elevator outage. This is an example of a problem she has to manage. (Oren Suskey / Brayden Allen)
