How is food delivered to students? It takes a lot of hard work. Let’s talk to some of the hard-working people who put meals on plates.
To find answers, it was our recent pleasure to interview Mrs. Christina Allenbaugh, one of the cooks at White City School. Her job is to feed the hungry students and staff of the school. Typical meals include chicken, biscuits and gravy, taco burger, and crispitos. Mrs. Christina told us that she is from Topeka, Kansas. First, we asked Mrs. Christina how long she has worked at White City School. She told us that she has worked here for 2 years. We asked her why White City School was a good school, and she said it is because it is a small school and the sizes of the classes are a fraction of what they would be at a bigger school. The largest class is Kindergarten with 18 students. We next asked her what the hardest part of her job was, and she said, “Making sure everything is done in a timely manner.” Effective food service has to run on a tight schedule, or people will go hungry. We asked Mrs. Shanna Watkins, Mrs. Christina’s kitchen co-worker, what the hardest part of the job was. She replied, “Standing up on my feet all day without any breaks.”
