On Sep.27, 2023, Multiple school FFA chapters gathered together for another FFA event, Land Judging. Stakes were high, as this event only occurs once a year. Ms. O had brought her group of students to Abilene KS. The student had to wait, when he had arrived, for other teams to get there. They were sat down in metal bleachers and were given instructions. Some rules were: dont cheat, and don't get mud on your final scantron. They had special things they needed to do in order to properly judge the land. An interesting utensil used in this judging is a knife - yes, a knife. It’s used to test the ground and see where it starts turning into a rock. This is a test of ‘soil depth.’ They had to “ribbon” the subsoil and surface soil, squeezing the dirt between pointer finger and thumb. At the end of the event, the attendees from White City were some of the last to leave, so they were able to see the results. The Greenhand team placed 2nd receiving a plaque. Malakhi Kramer placed 5th receiving a medal. Kyle Traynor placed 9th receiving a medal. Colter Johnson placed 12th - just shy of a medal. Other members include Jhet Johnson, RJ Fiest, and Karson Snyder. Senior team placed 6th. Koden Sanford placed 7th receiving a medal. Ian Effland placed 24th. Other members of the team include: Jacob Kasten, Trent Hoff, Cody Brown, and Mason Marsh.
