We recently interviewed the 3rd grade teacher here at White City, Mrs. Kari Hinkle. We asked her questions about the Leprechaun Traps that the students make. I asked her, "Why do you do Leprechaun Traps?" She answered, “It is fun and it is a science project.” Then I asked her about the coolest trap she had ever seen. She responded that she doesn't have one, because there are many unique traps every year, whether it be the size or the way it's decorated.
We asked if the kids like making the Leprechaun Traps. She replied, “I think they do. They always seem excited when they bring them in and are eager to tell their classmates and me all about them.” The kids usually have about a week and a half to finish the traps. They are given a rubric to obtain the highest score. The students have to make two simple machines. We asked Mrs. Hinkle if any of the students have ever caught a leprechaun and she said, “Unfortunately, no one has ever caught one! Some have heard one moving around inside their trap, but the leprechaun is never there when they get a closer look inside their trap.” Thank you for your time, Mrs. Hinkle!
