In their most recent project, students from Mrs. Carrie Feist's Forensics class built houses. Why did they build houses? The students are in the middle of a project on arson. They sought to investigate how something burns. Arson investigations play an important role in Forensic Science.
The houses had a point of origin of the fire, and then burnt for five minutes from the point of origin, the spot where students lit their houses on fire. As the house burnt, the students carefully observed. Afterwards, as arson investigators, they went to each of the houses and completed an arson report. The investigators attempted to figure out the origin of the fire: such as how it started, and the fire's point of origin. The students would start out by observing the outside of the house to figure out if the fire could have started outside. Afterwards, if it hadn’t appeared outside, they would search for the source of the fire on the interior.
For safety, our resident custodian, Kevin Allenbaugh, was on site with hose and fire protection. Walter Rhodes, one of the student arsonists, said, ‘Kevin is a fantastic fireman!’
