What is Quiz Bowl? Quiz Bowl is an after school activity that asks students to compete with other students from different schools. Two schools teams go in a room together, where they are asked six different categories of questions. If you know the answer to a question, you buzz in and wait to be recognized. Once you are recognized, you are allowed to answer the question once. If you get the answer correct, your team wins ten points. If one of your teammates buzzes in and doesn’t get it right, you don’t lose or win any points. If you interrupt and give an incorrect answer, your team loses five points. Usually, there are eight schools at each meet.
The middle school Quiz Bowl practice started February 1st. Coach for the team is Vernetta Hammersmith. The first meet took place in Wakefield on February 12. The eighth grade team placed second, while the seventh grade team placed third. On February 26th, the Quiz Bowl team traveled to Gossel. Neither the seventh graders or eighth graders placed at this meet. On March 25th, the team traveled to Herington where they played six schools. The eighth grade team placed first, and the seventh graders got fourth. On April 2nd, the Quiz Bowl teams will be traveling to Canton-Galva for the league meet. Good luck!
