On March 7th, 2024, 12:45 PM White City Schools had a contest held inside of the big gym. This contest was called YEC (Youth Entrepreneurship Contest) in which students could win actual money. However, they first needed to earn it. The purpose of YEC is to build up student’s entrepreneurship skills. Perhaps, in the future, they will go into business.
The students had multiple weeks to create their business. They would start with creating an “executive summary”, which needed to be put onto a website so it could be judged; additionally, these would count to the final grade of the business. Next, they could make a website if they wanted to, and also make a board if necessary. Business cards were not off the table. After all of the preparation, it was time to present. Competitors would stand at their stations and present to judges who would come by. They also presented to Elementary classes. When needed, they would go up to the art room and present to the officials, and there they would get graded on their presentation skills; also, this counted towards the final grade of the business.
After all of that, the students reconvened in the gym. The best business was “Barnyard Brews” (which, in fact, is a real business that operates here at White City Schools!) Overall, everyone had a great time.
